Leadership & Staff
Chief Executive Officer
Troy has served as chief executive officer of HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Charleston since 2004. He has served on numerous healthcare committees including the SC Trauma Advisory Council, American Heart Association and SC Brain Injury Alliance. Troy and his family live in the Summerville area, where he is involved in various civic organizations including the Summerville Miracle League where he was a founding board member. He is a graduate of East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a master’s degree in healthcare administration.
William J. Livesay, D.O.
Dr. Livesay is the medical director at HealthSouth Charleston. He has also served as the medical director at Gentiva Rehab Without Walls in Phoenix, Arizona, as well as the medical director at St. Luke’s Medical Center, Acute Rehabilitation Service also in Phoenix. His clinical interests include spinal cord injury, brain injury, amputee and spasticity treatment. Dr. Livesay is a 1999 graduate of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and holds a bachelor's degree from West Virginia University. Dr. Livesay completed his internship in 2000 in the Department of Family Medicine at West Virginia University Hospitals and his residency in 2003 in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine. He was board certified in 2005 by the Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
William J. Livesay, D.O. is an independent private practice physician whose office is located at the hospital.
Director of Marketing Operations
Tracie joins HealthSouth with more than 15 years of healthcare marketing and public relations experience in an acute care hospital setting. She holds a bachelor's degree in international marketing and foreign language from the University of South Alabama in Mobile and is fluent in Spanish. Tracie and her three sons live in Summerville and are very active in their church and community.
Director of Plant Operations
Jim has been the director of plant operations since June 2007. Prior to coming to HealthSouth, he was director of plant operations for seven years at Palmetto Behavioral Health in Charleston. Jim served 23 years with the United States Navy before retiring as a Lieutenant Commander in 1990. While in the Navy, Jim served as Engineer Officer on two large ships and helped recommission the USS Iowa. Jim and his wife Charlotte live in Summerville where they are active in their church and other community events.
Director of Case Management
Joel has been the director of case management since October 2010. He has more than 15 years of experience in physical rehabilitation and emergency medical treatment. Joel retired from the U.S. Navy and naval reserve as a Lieutenant attached to the U.S. Marines. He holds a master’s degree in business administration from Colorado State University, a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the Medical University of South Carolina and an associate degree in physical therapy from Trident Technical College.
Beckye has been with HealthSouth of Charleston since 2004 and has years of prior healthcare financial management experience in both specialty and acute care hospital settings. She earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting and a master’s degree in business administration from Charleston Southern University. She is an avid South Carolina Gamecock fan.
Director of Human Resources
Traxler joined HealthSouth in September 2012 as the director of human resources. He has six years of experience in human resource management from a variety of industries to include healthcare, retail, manufacturing and service. He has a master’s degree in industrial organizational psychology. Traxler is from North Carolina and has lived in Park Circle with his wife since 2010.
Director of Therapy Operations
Jamy is a graduate of Trident Technical College with an associate degree in allied sciences. A physical therapist assistant with more than 15 years experience in the healthcare field, she has been employed with HealthSouth Charleston for more than 12 years. Jamy is an active volunteer in the community with wheelchair sports and has been a volunteer with the Charleston Amputee Support Team (CAST) for almost 10 years. She was the recipient of the Charleston Regional Business Journal’s 2006 award for “Healthcare Hero Volunteer” for her work in the community.
Nihar H. Patel, D.O.
Program Director of Medical Services
Dr. Patel is a 2003 graduate of University of Pikeville School of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Patel became board certified in 2006 by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He has been serving the Charleston area since 2006. Dr. Patel is president of the Society of Hospital Medicine, Lowcountry chapter. In 2011, he founded Pinnacle Physicians, LLC, a hospitalist company with a mission to provide the highest quality of care for inpatient services.
Director of Pharmacy Operations
Cathy has been the pharmacy director at HealthSouth since 2007. She has over 14 years of pharmacy management experience. Cathy received her BS in Pharmacy from MUSC College of Pharmacy. She also has a bachelor’s degree from the College of Charleston in Secondary Education and taught history, geography, journalism, and English before seeking her degree in pharmacy. Cathy instructs pharmacy students from SC College of Pharmacy where she is an adjunct assistant professor. She has lived in the Charleston area for over 30 years.
Chief Nursing Officer
Patty is a registered nurse with more than 30 years of healthcare experience in a variety of clinical, management and leadership roles in the acute care setting. She has her Masters degree in nursing and has been employed by HealthSouth since 2009. As a board member for the Lowcountry Affiliate for Susan G. Komen for the Cure and a breast cancer survivor herself, she is very involved with breast cancer education in the community. Patty is the recipient of the 2006 Komen Foundation Volunteer of the Year Award, the 2005 Thomas Frist Sr. Humanitarian Award and the 2005 Komen Community Hero Award. She is married with two married sons.
Elaine started in January 2013 as the prospective payment system coordinator for HealthSouth of Charleston. Elaine started her nursing career over 30 years ago in Indianapolis at the Indiana University Medical Center. In 1993 she moved to Los Angeles where she worked as a trauma/ ICU/ER nurse at UCLA and LA County ERs and as the assistant medical administrator for Warner Brothers Studios. 2006 brought her to the east coast to fulfill her lifelong dream of having her own animal rescue, Angel Dog Acres, which she maintains at her home in Loris, SC. She recently moved to the Charleston area with hopes of having a second rescue here. Elaine is active in volunteer work with animal shelters and other nonprofit organizations.
